Queensland Community Foundation General Fund 2008 Grant Recipients

QCF GIVES BACK TO QUEENSLAND CHARITIES

Queensland Community Foundation distributed $90,000 to eight Queensland charities through its annual grants program.

Eight local charities were presented with grants of up to $15,000 by The Honourable Mike Ahern AO, Patron of QCF at a special presentation lunch on Tuesday 5 August 2008.

The grants will help the charities with funding of training initiatives to ensure they continue to provide the best possible service to the Queensland community.

QCF's continued support of capacity building will help charities to help themselves by improving organisational capacity and thereby service delivery.

The following Queensland charities were recipients of QCF grants:
v ACT for Kids (formerly Abused Child Trust)
A registered charity which works to break the cycle of abuse and neglect in Australia. Provide a range of therapeutic interventions for distressed children and their families. Additionally, they are also involved in advocacy and research that will improve the lives of vulnerable children.
Training Program
l 123 Magic Parenting program (train the trainer).
l Understanding the Neurobiology of Trauma.
l Trauma Beyond Words Levels 1 and 2.
l Therapeutic Groups in Mind.
v Community Solutions
Specialises in the development and delivery of innovative and sustainable projects and services, primarily provided to individuals who are significantly disadvantaged and required direct relief and support.
Training Program
l Certificate IV in Mental Health (non-clinical).
l Certificate IV in Community services Advocacy.
v Cystic Fibrosis
CFQ's mission is to meet the needs of and enhance the quality of life of Queenslanders affected by cystic fibrosis. It supports 730 patients and their families throughout Qld, N NSW and NT, providing counselling, education, funding assistance, outreach/regional support, regional health care providers training, and medical equipment.
Training Program
l 13 Staff to be training in new information management system for client and donor records.
v Gold Coast Drug Council
Aim to be leaders in the development and provision of caring, responsive and high quality drug and alcohol programs based on the bio/psycho/social model and utilising processes of prevention, early intervention and specialised treatment, that effectively promote well-being and health harm minimisation for those experiencing interpersonal and social functioning problems related to drug use.
Training Program
l Instructor Training Course in Youth Mental Health First Aid Training.
v Hear and Say for Deaf Children
The Centre teaches deaf/hearing impaired children to listen, hear and speak using Auditory-Verbal Therapy combined with cochlear implants. It aims to equip deaf children with speech and language in normal range for their age so they can integrate fully in the hearing community and achieve their potential in education and employment.
Training Program
l Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) - mentoring training sessions in Qld regional areas and attendance to two trainee therapists at the Level 1 & 2 workshops.
v Montrose Access
Provides support services to children and young adults with physical disabilities and their families to achieve their maximum individual potential for participation in the community.
Training Program
l Introductory training and mentoring program, skills improvement program and specialist management programs.
v Multicultural Development Association
Established in 1998 to promote multiculturalism and empower people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds through advocacy, community development and a range of client service programs. Based on a respect for human rights and the social justice principles of fairness, equity, opportunity and dignity for all people.
Training Program
l Cross Cultural competency skills.
l Skills for working with traumatised clients.
l Skills for working with clients with a mental illness.
l Skills for achieving positive change when working with families in crisis.
v Multilink Community Services Inc
Provides coordinated, creative and responsive programs to meet the needs of culturally and linguistic diverse as well as refugee background individuals, families, cultural groups and communities.
Training Program
l Training for staff on Microsoft packages.
l Leadership training course.
